A 34-year-old woman, Elizabeth Akinagbe was yesterday sentenced to
three months imprisonment by a Kubwa Magistrates’ Court for stealing her
husband’s wig and gown.
Magistrate Malam Ibrahim Mohammed, who presided over the case in his
verdict sentenced the woman to one month imprisonment on each of the

Mohammed who gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine said that the sentence would run concurrently.
The convict was arraigned on May 23, following complaints by a
lawyer, Victor Olise who resides in Jayi village, Arab Road in Kubwa,
Abuja.
The prosecutor, Lucas Ephraim informed the court that Olise had on
April 19 complained that the convict forcefully broke into his house and
stole his wig and gown.
He added that Elizabeth also stole female underwear and family
photographs, saying that the offences contravened Sections 346, 287 and
288 of the Penal Code.
The convict who pleaded not guilty to the charges told the court that she was formerly married to the complainant.
She said, “I had three children for him, but since our separation, he has denied me access to the children.
“I took his wig and gown to compel him to allow me see my children, but I didn’t take any other item from his house,’’ she said.
Responding, Olise claimed that the convict abandoned the children with him and flee to unknown destination
“When she abandoned the children, I had no other choice than to take
them to my people in the village for adequate care,’’ Olisa said.
