Emirates to cut Arsenal sponsorship if they don’t play Champions League

Arsenal will lose some of their £30million a year sponsorship from main backers Emirates if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League in the future. Manager Arsene Wenger has led the club into Europe’s lucrative club competition every season he has been in charge.
But Arsenal are suffering their worst ever campaign under the Frenchman, are in danger of missing out on a trophy for the eighth straight year – and may yet struggle to qualify for Champions League football next year.
Now the club’s big backers, who have negotiated an extension on their contract to cover the five seasons from 2014-15, have disclosed they are taking precautions in case the club’s Champions League revenue and exposure suddenly dry up.
Emirates senior vice-president Boutros Boutros confirmed that the Dubai-based airline, which puts its name to both the stadium and Arsenal’s shirts, are planning to impose results-based precautions as part of any new deal.
‘There are certain clauses, from 2015, that we pay them a percentage less if they don’t perform,’ said Boutros.
‘The Champions League is part of the new contract. It’s just to keep them on their toes.
‘It’s fair to us and fair to them.’
Boutros insisted that Arsenal remained ‘an incredibly strong brand, well managed, with a great coach’.

Wilfred Okiche: The 5 worst albums of 2012 (and yes, Davido’s O.B.O is on the list!)

The past year (period ending 1, December 2011-1,December 2012) had it’s great music moments but like every other facet of life, it had it’s downsides. We scour through the major musical releases and bring you the definitive list of the 5 worst albums of the year.
You may want to burn your copies.
Solar Plexus – Mavin All stars
The D’Banj-Don Jazzy breakup was one of the top music events of 2012. The release of the Don Jazzy-led Mavin All star album, ‘Solar plexus’ sadly wasn’t. And there are no prizes for guessing why. The problems are legion; weak delivery, over reliance on lavish beats, underutilization of Wande Coal, puerile lyrics and a general lack of cohesion. Proponents argue it was a project put together in a hurry but we say it is still no excuse.

The Statement – Sammie Okposo
There is a reason Sammie Okposo’s latest album of gospel tunes was largely ignored by the record buying populace. It isn’t a good album. The heavy-handed production values attempts to gloss over the fact that Mr Okposo did not have a lot to offer this time around but the cracks kept showing.

The convict who pleaded not guilty to the charges told the court that she was formerly married to the complainant.
She said, “I had three children for him, but since our separation, he has denied me access to the children.
“I took his wig and gown to compel him to allow me see my children, but I didn’t take any other item from his house,’’ she said.
Responding, Olise claimed that the convict abandoned the children with him and flee to unknown destination
“When she abandoned the children, I had no other choice than to take them to my people in the village for adequate care,’’ Olisa said.

“Ronaldo and Messi are the best players in the world” – Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, has stated that there is nothing to choose from both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting that they are both the best players in the world.
The Barcelona forward has been in amazing form this season, scoring 90 times to suprass Gerd Muller’s 40-year-old record, of goals scored in a calender year, while Ronaldo has also been scoring for fun at Real Madrid.
“The great thing about football is that there will always be great players. You can go back to the 60s with Di Stefano, Puskas, and Eusebio. Going into the 70s you had Cruyff and Beckenbauer and then in the 80s Van Basten,” he said.
“I think that what we are seeing at the moment from Messi is an exceptional player from this decade along with Cristiano Ronaldo.
“There is nothing between the two of them, they are both the best players in the world.”
The 71-year-old Scot, also spoke about the top two contenders – Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola – to take over from him when he eventually decides to quit coaching.
“His [Guardiola] record is fantastic; the trophies he won at Barcelona were quite exceptional and that is his CV, he wins trophies,” Ferguson continued.

For a few weeks now, there were unconfirmed reports that Thierry Henry’s loan deal to Arsenal – his third return to the club – had been sealed. The club’s legend, has been training with the current squad in London for a while now, and it was believed the deal would be made official in January. But Red Bulls Head of Global Soccer, Gerrard Houllier, who has managed Liverpool and Aston Villa in England, has said he does not think the 35-year-old will return to the Emirates.
“I find it strange what we hear in the media. If Arsene needed him, he would have called me or [sporting director] Andy Roxburgh, but this is not the case,” he told Canal Plus.

Wizkid speaks with Punch’s ’NONYE BEN-NWANKWO about his career and lifestyle

About my career
Although I am hardworking, I would not be where I am today if God had not made it possible. It has been hard work all the way. I am just thankful to God. Initially, I prayed to God to bless my work. I have always believed in hard work. If you work hard, you will be rewarded. I just kept working hard and staying on my lane and doing my thing. I wouldn’t say I saw this success coming. But I kept praying to God to make it happen for me and He did. I don’t intend to stop now, just because I have achieved this ‘little’ success. I am just on my first album.  I am not fulfilled yet. I am not even close to getting fulfilled. I have not started anything. I feel that God has a big plan for me. I have to live up to expectation. That is why I am always working. My album is ready. I dropped my album last year. It is going to be another two years before I release another one. The new album reflects a more mature Wizkid at work. I will be involved in a number of collaborations.
